We were out of town celebrating Mike's 40th birthday, and when we came back, guess what was in the mail???? HIS PASSPORT!!!!!!!!!! It took 7 days!!!!!

Oh, Passport People, I could just KISS YOU!!!!!!!

We updated our fingerprints today, more on that in a bit, and now I just need to get a copy of his passport notarized, state sealed and authenticated. No sweat. :)

Passport Update

Well, Mike's passport is now in the system, and came up on the passport website as, 'Being Processed.' Yay!!!! Not bad for having turned it in on July 20th. I hope it continues to progress this quickly. If there are any 'Passport Gods' out there reading......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! :)

Adventures of the Birth Certificate

SO! Friday, I was puttering around the house in my jammie jams. Yeah, it was pushing noon-ish, but....that's not the point right now. Tee hee! I let our Yorkies out in the yard to romp and do their business, and I was watching them through our sliding glass door and, like I said, puttering. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a guy walking into our yard - the Fed Ex guy! So, first, I run into the kitchen, looking for SOMETHING to throw on. Of course, nothing. In a split second, I'm thinking, do I run upstairs?? No....the sliding door is right by the stairs, he'll see me. Do I not answer the door?? Can't do that.....the doggies are outside with the guy, and I REALLY REALLY need that birth certificate. So, as dignified as I can, in my faded nightshirt, I had to answer the door. With a messy house behind me, the dogs in the yard jockeying to get to the Fed Ex guy, and me in my jammies with no makeup and a half-assed brushed ponytail, I signed for Mike's birth certificate. Sigh. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded if instead of dumpy ole me it was Angelina Jolie at the door........

But, we do now have Mike's birth certificate!!! Yay!!! Now, on with the passport expedition!!! One step closer, baby........

Well, I learned a couple things late last night:

1. EVERYONE should have a passport

2. You should always keep about 10 certified copies of birth certificates on file.

3. Nothing is ever easy. Or...Murphy's Law DOES exist.


So, shall I explain? First of all, I had been thinking that our referral might be coming soon. I was getting little inklings from our adoption assistant, and I knew she was checking over our file. Cool! I was starting to jump at the phone ringing, I was just getting that pre-referral feeling.

And then last night, I get an email. From our adoption assistant. You see, one of the requirements of a Vietnam dossier is copies of the adoptive parents' passports. My husband does not hold a passport, and is not planning to travel to Vietnam with me. So, I didn't worry about it. I had asked if we needed something instead of a copy of a passport for him, and did not hear anything.

Until last night. I learned, in a hurry, that he DOES need a passport. And, we cannot get a referral until the adoption agency receives a copy of the passport. So, I have to expedite another certified copy of his birth certificate, and then I need to expedite a passport. Sigh. All so I can make a copy of the bio page and send it to the adoption agency. I am not a happy camper.

I started wondering last night if perhaps I should have saved our adoption money and just remodeled the bathroom instead. I know I'll get over this funk, but for now, I think there's a black cloud over my head named Hugo. (THANKS, PoKa). :) Another great friend of mine who I've gotten to know online, and we WERE at about the same spot in our adoption, just gave me a boost, though. She told me to think of this like false labor. It often happens in the 7th month, eh, Karey?? Thanks, Sweetie.

Referrals are coming in!!

Yippee!!! I've heard from about 5 people who got referrals today!!! I'm so happy for them! I'm also jealous, so if the angels are reading this, please bring me my little bundle of joy soon, too!!!
