Column

Wanna read my column?  This week's is about our trip to the Capitol.  However, if you click my name at the website, you will see I have three other articles from previous weeks.  They're a funny look at parenting.  :)  Enjoy!

HAPPY EASTER!

The Bunny was good to us.  Hope he was good to you as well!

Maelie's 3rd Birthday

We had a monster pool party the weekend before her birthday, with her little friends.  The weekend after her birthday, we had a family party at Grandma's house.  THESE are the photos from her actual 3rd birthday.  Mommy and Maelie had a bit of a 'spa day' at home, we went out to dinner, and then the poor poppet ended up with a fever and not feeling quite so well that evening.  But, we had a nice, relaxing 3rd birthday.  My baby's growing up so quickly!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yeah...catching up on photos...a bit late, what else is new??  :)

One of my lovely friends with a daughter Maelie's age, just happens to be a bonny lass!  When she went home to Ireland a couple months ago, she brought this awesome shirt back.  We love it!  :D

First Trip to the Park of the Year!

A couple weeks ago, we actually had a few days of Spring!  We've since gone back to Winter, but we made the most of those 48 precious hours of Spring and got to go to the park!  :D  We're hoping to enjoy those 36 hours of Summer that might happen in July.....

The Bathroom

I love being a Mommy.  I really do.  There are certain trade-offs from life without children, of course....lack of spontaneity for some things, knowing more about children's books/TV shows/cartoon characters than more adult entertainment options, and a lack of privacy.  But, the love, kisses, and handmade sticky Popsicle stick picture frames with a hand-drawn 6-legged horse in the middle more than makes up for these trade-offs.

However, I'm starting to think that having just 5 minutes alone in the bathroom might be worth trading in the 6-legged horse masterpiece.

For example, the other evening as I sat on the couch surveying the scene before me, I was filled with inner contentment.  Maelie was sitting next to her Daddy, watching Mickey Mouse.  Our Yorkies were curled up on the couch, dreaming of milk bones and whatever else dogs dream about, still as stuffed animals.  The cats were hiding, and all was well in the world.  My first thought was, "Ah.  Life is good."  My second? "I gotta 'make.'"

I extracted myself from the slumbering Yorkies, tiptoed past Maelie and her Daddy, and made my way to the bathroom.  Ahhhh.  I sat down in relative peace, picked up the closest reading material handy...the Scholastic Book Order...and enjoyed the solitude.  Seriously, I poop you not, THIS was the scene 1.2 seconds after sitting down.

"Boo Boo, where's the fire extinguisher?" My husband asks from the closed door.

"Momma read to me!!!!"  Maelie opens the door and stands there with the 2009 World Almanac under her arm.

"Yip!"  Allegra the Yorkie barrels in.

"Bark!"  Eureeka the Yorkie jumps over Allegra.

"Woof!" Stewie the Yorkie as he chases the other Yorkies around my feet.

"Ma'am, can you please sign for this package?"  The UPS man at the window.

"MEOW!!!"  The cat, declaring her hunger and demanding food in the bowl as she winds around my ankles and through my underwear.

"SPLASH!!!!!!"  Maelie making sound effects as she dumps my makeup into the sink.

"RING RING RING," followed by, "Do you EVER answer your phone?  Call your mother, she worries."  My mother, on the answering machine.

"Have you found God?"  Religious person standing next to UPS man at window.

"Momma....Wheeee!!!!   PAPER!"  Maelie, as she TPs the bathroom.

"Honey, where's the BIG fire extinguisher????"  The husband.

Sigh.  Flush.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Maelie!

Maelie has been celebrating her 3rd birthday since this past weekend...and we're still not done!  We had a pool party for her little friends this past weekend, and we have a family party this coming Sunday.  It's tough being an Empress!  :D  We celebrated as a family yesterday, which was very nice.  I'll be posting photos shortly, but for now, let's see what Maelie's up to:

*  She love to swim...like a FISH!  She also hops, jumps, runs, dances, twirls, bounces, and loves to wrestle with her daddy.  She's an active little girl.
*  She loves to tell stories and replays Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes in her little head.  So cute!
*  She has a memory like nothing I've ever encountered before.
*  She loves Mickey Mouse, Elmo, Thomas the Train, and is getting really big into My Little Pony.  :)
*  She knows all her letters by sight....capitals and lower case.
*  She LOVES numbers.  LOVES them.  She counts to 20 without pause, counts to 100 by tens, she knows how to 'make' numbers...like by putting a number 1 in front of a 7 makes seventeen.  She can count into the 20s, but has to pause to think about it a little bit.  She knows that a number 6 can also be 9 if you turn it upside down.  :)  She is truly a whiz with numbers.
*  She knows all colors.
*  She knows all her shapes...and knows a hexagon from a pentagon from an octagon without counting...something MOMMY can't even do!  :)
*  She still loves her books and we have WAAAAAAY too many.
*  Her favorite food is french fries and chicken and she still dislikes sweets.  We cannot get her to eat anything sweet like cake, ice cream, etc.  She still doesn't like veggies and fruits, and we do have food issues with her.  But, we're working on it.
*  She LOVES crayons, coloring books, play doh and moon sand.
*  She has an absolute love of little toys...little Mickey and Sesame Street figurines, My Little Pony, Thomas the Train.  She's getting a bit more 'girly' in that she likes the My Little Pony and a new Minnie Mouse toy that she can change the dress and bows.
* She squeals with delight when her Daddy comes home from work.  She loves her family, loves going to her ECFE class, loves learning, and makes us laugh out loud every single day.  She's a joy...sometimes too smart for our own good, too beautiful for words, and has made me speechless with love.  I am just so absolutely HONORED to be her Mommy.  I love you, Maelie Mouse.

A little tiny favor

Hi!!  I HATE beggong for votes, BUT....if you have nothing better to do, are on the Net,  and are so inclined, could you please take a look at the following link and vote for Maelie?  I would be ever so grateful.  It's just for a little goodie bag to kick off the Disney Junior Channel...her favorite, along with Sprout.  And, her picture could be on TV.  Again, NO BIG DEAL!  Thank you ever so much!  Pass it along, if you desire!  :)

Thank you,
The Imperial Management :D
