So, getting to our story of the day. We decided to go to a small park today (the photo with the blue outfit). On the way back home, my good friend Michelle was sitting on her steps, so we decided to stop in and chat. Well, Mike and Maelie quickly grew tired of us chatting, and Maelie took off walking down the sidewalk, Daddy in tow. After awhile, they made their way back, and Daddy told us of their adventure. Turns out, they walked around the block, Maelie leading the way, Mike making sure she didn't get into trouble. Maelie walked into someone's back gate, and Mike could hear the lady in her yard say, "It's the baby from the newspaper! The Empress has come to see us!" They couldn't see Mike over their fence, so to them, it looked like Maelie was on her own visiting! Now, we have no idea who these people were, but, they sure knew Maelie!
And, on the subject of neighbors....last night we had a very nice surprise. We got home from our adventures out and about (the photos in the yellow outfit), and there was a message on the machine from our neighbor across the street. We're all fairly private people around here (we've lived here for 10 years and I've spoken to this woman once.) Anyway, she said she had a gift for Maelie and could we meet up. We called her right away and went over to her yard. She gave Maelie a very cute sweatshirt and sweatpants for when she's a bit older. Too sweet!! And, small, ironic world that I live in, this woman (I should specify here that she's caucasian), was in Vietnam in 1974 working to help set up orphanages and adoptions. How cool is that?!?! She has a photo album of her time there that she's going to locate so I can see. I cannot wait. Fascinating woman, very kind.
So, not only are we helping Maelie learn about her world, she is helping us, too. Man, we love this little girl!!!!
