Well, I learned a couple things late last night:
1. EVERYONE should have a passport
2. You should always keep about 10 certified copies of birth certificates on file.
3. Nothing is ever easy. Or...Murphy's Law DOES exist.
So, shall I explain? First of all, I had been thinking that our referral might be coming soon. I was getting little inklings from our adoption assistant, and I knew she was checking over our file. Cool! I was starting to jump at the phone ringing, I was just getting that pre-referral feeling.
And then last night, I get an email. From our adoption assistant. You see, one of the requirements of a Vietnam dossier is copies of the adoptive parents' passports. My husband does not hold a passport, and is not planning to travel to Vietnam with me. So, I didn't worry about it. I had asked if we needed something instead of a copy of a passport for him, and did not hear anything.
Until last night. I learned, in a hurry, that he DOES need a passport. And, we cannot get a referral until the adoption agency receives a copy of the passport. So, I have to expedite another certified copy of his birth certificate, and then I need to expedite a passport. Sigh. All so I can make a copy of the bio page and send it to the adoption agency. I am not a happy camper.
I started wondering last night if perhaps I should have saved our adoption money and just remodeled the bathroom instead. I know I'll get over this funk, but for now, I think there's a black cloud over my head named Hugo. (THANKS, PoKa). :) Another great friend of mine who I've gotten to know online, and we WERE at about the same spot in our adoption, just gave me a boost, though. She told me to think of this like false labor. It often happens in the 7th month, eh, Karey?? Thanks, Sweetie.

Karen has a good point. Give yourself an hour to go shopping for baby stuff tomorrow!!! Hurry Birth Certificate people, HURRY!!!
I think the adoption "paper game" is the equivalent to pregnancy's morning sickness. You're progressing and it's a part of the final result... you're sweet baby in your arms forever. It is one day closer and one more day this lucky family will not be without their wonderful baby!

These surprise delays are SO HARD, especially when they involve paperwork that doesn't make a flippin' bit of sense. I feel for you.

DTV just yesterday
Dude, it just sucks. If you need the secret passport number, just let me know.
I am so sorry that sucks. I know it does not help but when I had a set back I would just tell myself that my little one wasn't ready for me an the set backs happen for a reason to make sure you get the baby perfect for you. I will pray for a fast turn around.

Be gone Hugo be gone! Leave our VNE family alone! I'm so sorry that you have it the crappy paperwork poo's! Dust yourself off, and hop right back on that train...don't let the turkeys get you down my friend! ~noka
I'm so sorry! I know how incredibly frustrated you must be! Adoption is such an emotional roller coaster. Feeling so out of control of what happens is soooo frustrating! And it would be nice if we knew all the "rules" to this game up front instead of learning as we go. I bet if you tell someone/write a letter when you send in your husband's passport info they will hurry it along. Good luck!
